Information you provide in the Certification of Finances form will be used to help the University’s enrollment committee understand your funding sources for your education, as well as potential support needs of incoming students. It will be used to assess possible scholarship eligibility and to assess enrollment trends.

What if my financial situation changes after I submit this form?

I thought there were no additional forms to complete to be considered for a scholarship at the University?
- Consideration for merit-based scholarships is made on the basis of the application materials. However, scholarships with a financial need component require financial information to assess eligibility.
- Responses to this form will be considered when we award some Global Excellence Scholarships.
- We still expect all students needing a Visa to study in the US to cover their costs.
- International students studying on an F-1 visa in the U.S. do not qualify for U.S. or Minnesota state financial aid programs. The University of Minnesota does not offer a full tuition waiver or scholarship and the University assumes that international students will take full responsibility for financing their education. By what date do you need me to complete this form?
Please submit the form as soon as possible. We expect to provide scholarship letters to recipients by the end of March 2025, and would like this financial information available when we begin reviewing applicants for scholarships in January.
Do you need documentation about these financial resources, such as banking statements or sponsorship letters?
Not at this time. If you are admitted and choose to enroll at the University, our International Student and Scholar Services will reach out to gather these documents as part of our I-20 issuance process.
What if I am not sure what my financial resources will be?
Please have a conversation with your parent/guardian and any other sponsors for your education and discuss the specific resources available to you so you can answer these questions to the best of your ability.
I will require a visa [type other than F1], why do I need to fill this out?
If you are not able to complete the form, the committee may not be able to understand your support needs, finalize an admission decision or assess scholarship eligibility.
Can I submit my CSS profile instead of this Certification of Finance form?
The University of Minnesota does not use a CSS profile. Instead, we ask students to submit the Certificate of Finances.
