Why they chose the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
I wanted to attend a school with an incredible reputation and legacy in the field of psychology. With famous former professors like B.F. Skinner, and the globally recognized "twin studies" done at UMN, I knew I was going into a program with high-quality academics. I also fell in love with the location. Being a Minnesota sports fan, having the easy access to the professional sports teams here was something I definitely utilized. College nights for sports games are great!
Counseling Skills. For many of my psychology courses, the focus was learning and understanding the core theories and strategies used in psychology today. In my counseling skills course, I was able to put skills to practice, videotape my practice sessions, and receive feedback on my strategy and style. It was exceptionally helpful for when I met with people after graduation.
Favorite U of M Memory
Meeting my fiancée in one of my first classes on campus. I came to campus knowing I needed to make a friend, and when I walked into my first class at Willey Hall, I went up to her and introduced myself right away. After multiple classes of sitting next to each other and studying together, she became one of my first friends on campus, and eventually became my future bride-to-be.
Favorite Random fact about the University
Goldy wasn't originally a gopher! He was designed after a 13-lined ground squirrel, (also known as the "striped gopher"), in 1857. After years of redesign, our current Goldy design became official in 1986 and has lasted ever since.
Best Place to Study on Campus
Walter Library was my favorite place to be. Their computer lab is incredibly up to date with current technology, and the computers there have massive monitors that I really liked to use when I was reading/writing multiple documents for class. Also, the café in the basement became essential when I needed coffee for the long study nights.
The One Experience Students Shouldn't Miss
Go to a Gopher football game, and be in the student section! Being a part of our campus energy and spirit at the games was something I'll never forget.
