Transfer Admissions Requirements: Carlson School of Management

The Carlson School of Management Undergraduate Program is one of the nation's best business schools. This world-class four-year program enrolls approximately 2,500 students and offers 10 majors. The student experience is enhanced through internship and executive mentorship opportunities; honors opportunities; frequent interactions with the business community; and a required international experience. Prerequisite coursework and review criteria:

In order to be considered for admission to the Carlson School, transfer applicants must have completed the following prerequisite courses with a grade of C- or better. These courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester prior to the fall term of enrollment:

  • Microeconomics (ECON 1101 or APEC 1101 or ECON 1165 or ECON 3101)
  • Financial Accounting/Financial Reporting (ACCT 2051/ACCT 2050) 

Applicants are highly recommended to complete a statistics course in addition to the prerequisites listed above. (If you have taken a statistics course that trains you to utilize Statistical Software Environment R, please submit that course to be reviewed as equivalent to BA 2551 - Business Statistics in R.)

Most successful transfer applicants will:

  • Have a preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Have completed, or have in progress, 26 or more post secondary credits.
  • Remain in good academic standing in courses in progress at the time of admission.

Students who have fewer than 26 credits in progress or completed by the application deadline must submit a high school transcript; you will choose whether you would like an ACT or SAT score included in the review of your application. 

The Carlson School of Management admits a limited number of transfer students to its program each year. Admission is competitive and is based on an overall assessment of the applicant's background and accomplishments as presented in the application materials. Academic performance is assessed on factors such as: overall grade point average and rigor of curriculum, progress in the prerequisite courses by the end of the spring semester, grade trends, and completion patterns. In addition to very strong academic records, applicants should have strong leadership, service and/or work experience outside the classroom.

Please note: If a student has earned a bachelor's degree in business from another four-year institution, they may not earn a second bachelor's degree from the Carlson School.
