Welcome to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Class of 2028! This checklist is for first-year students admitted for Fall 2024.
You can confirm your enrollment online. The website will prompt you to confirm your enrollment and pay your $325 confirmation fee using a credit card by the deadline in your Application Tracker.
When students confirm their enrollment, they are declaring their intent to attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and we will reserve a place for them in the incoming class.
IMPORTANT UPDATES: For updates on our confirmation deadline after May 15, please see our confirm page.
To apply for need-based grants, scholarships, loans, work-study, and non-need-based student and parent loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA will be available in December, and students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. We strongly encourage you to submit the FAFSA, even if you aren't sure you will be eligible. For more information about the FAFSA, visit the Costs, Aid, and Scholarships section of our website or contact a financial aid counselor at One Stop.
Apply for housing at housing.umn.edu. The University of Minnesota Twin Cities guarantees housing to all admitted first-year students who are willing to accept an assignment to any space if they do all of the following:
Students who apply for housing after May 1 are placed in housing only on a space-available basis.
IMPORTANT UPDATES: For updates on our deadlines after May 15, please see the gold box on our confirm page.
There are many ways to celebrate and let others know of your admission to the University of Minnesota! You can:
The New Student Checklist is an interactive, online checklist that allows students to complete the "Tell us about yourself" survey, sign up for orientation dates, and take any required placement exams. Depending on your college, you may need to take a placement test for math, chemistry, and/or a second language to help us determine the best starting point for your college curriculum.
The New Student Checklist will become available in April to students who have confirmed their enrollment. Confirmed students will receive an email from Orientation & Transition Experiences with instructions on how to access their New Student Checklist. (Please note that enrollment confirmations are processed as quickly as possible, but the New Student Checklist becomes available approximately five business days after the confirmation is submitted.)
If you have questions, please contact Orientation & Transition Experiences at 612-624-1979 or 1-800-234-1979, or check online.
Orientation, which occurs in the summer prior to the fall semester, is a required event during which you will meet your college adviser and register for your freshman year classes.
After you have confirmed your enrollment, you will be able to access your New Student Checklist. New Student Orientation is your required, official introduction to University life, where you’ll:
All freshmen are required to participate in this important program, which ensures a great start to your first year at the University of Minnesota. Students who have confirmed their enrollment can select their orientation date beginning in April through the New Student Checklist (see above). More information will be emailed beginning in March to students who have confirmed their enrollment. If you have questions, please contact Orientation & Transition Experiences at [email protected] or online chat.
In order to verify that you have met University of Minnesota enrollment requirements, you must have your final high school transcript, including date of graduation, submitted to the Office of Admissions by the July 1 deadline. When we receive your final transcript, we will review it to make certain you have maintained your strong academic record. Important note: Read our complete policy about senior year performance and final high school transcripts.
If you chose to include an ACT/SAT score as part of your application for admission, or if you self-reported an English proficiency score on your application, you must have your official test scores submitted from the testing agency to the Office of Admissions by July 1. These items will appear on your Next Steps Checklist on your Application Tracker. We will use your official scores to verify your self-reported information on your application. Students who self-reported multiple test scores must send the highest overall score that was self-reported.
If you did not self-report any test scores on your application for admission, you do not need to submit official test scores. Your Next Steps Checklist (which appears on your Application Tracker after you confirm your enrollment) will reflect this.
Welcome Week compliments your orientation experience and is an action-packed experience for new freshmen that connects you to the campus, your college of enrollment, and the Twin Cities community. Welcome Week occurs the week before classes begin and attendance is required. During the program, you will have an opportunity to build relationships with your classmates and discover the multitude of resources and opportunities available to enhance your college experience. More information will be provided in the summer to students who have confirmed their enrollment. Visit the Welcome Week page for more details.
