Your transfer application is complete when you submit the following items:
1. Submit your application
For Spring 2026 or Fall 2026 applicants: You’ll apply through the Common App for Transfer Students.
Once in Common App, choose the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (Spring or Fall programs) under the Add a Program tab.
Do not start a Common App for freshman applicants
2. Pay the $55 application fee
Application fee waivers may be available if you meet Common App Fee Waiver requirements, are an active U.S. military member currently deployed, participate in MnCAP or 4-H, or attend a University of Minnesota Twin Cities application workshop
3. Submit all of your college transcript(s)
If you attended U.S.-Based Institutions:
Option 1:
- Upload your unofficial transcript while completing your Common App. (PDF, screenshot, or scan.)
The University of Minnesota Twin Cities now accepts unofficial transcripts from students who’ve attended U.S.-based universities as part of the steps to complete your transfer application. This allows you to:
Submit your application materials faster, without waiting on registrar offices
Avoid initial transcript request fees and keep your application moving on your schedule
Upload your unofficial transcript directly within the Common App, or shortly after applying via your University of Minnesota Twin Cities’ Application Tracker.
- If you can not submit it during your application, you can upload it via your Application Tracker after applying. This will delay your app review - don’t delay!
If you are admitted using an unofficial transcript, you will be required to submit an official transcript at the end of your current term, once final grades are available.
Option 2:
Submit an official transcript (sent electronically or by mail)
If you attended institutions outside the United States:
- Request an official transcript be sent to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities from all institutions located outside the U.S.
- Official international transcripts must be sent directly from the institution or through an approved service.
NOTE: We are unable to accept unofficial transcripts from international schools for application completion.
Additional Materials:
- If you attended school in other countries, refer to our Application Checklist for International Transfer Applicants.
- If you are not a native speaker of English, submit results from one of our approved English language proficiency tests.
- If you are applying to Dental Hygiene or Mortuary Science you must submit a supplemental application. Please note that some supplemental applications require an additional fee. To learn about specific college requirements, visit Transfer Admission Requirements.

Submit official high school transcripts
- All applicants must turn in a high school transcript. The high school transcript (or GED) is needed to determine: proof of graduation; whether you have completed the high school preparation requirements; and whether you have met all of the prerequisites for admission to your college of choice.
- Exception: students who have previously completed an A.A. degree or bachelor's degree do not need to submit a high school transcript.
- If you attended or graduated from a secondary school in another country, have your school send to the Office of Admissions your official final secondary school transcript and proof of graduation (i.e. graduation certificate or leaving exam results). All documents not issued in English must be in the original language and include a certified true English translation. (Official documents are those that are original or are attested copies of original academic documents that are mailed in a sealed, stamped envelope directly from the secondary school.)
