Transfer Admissions Requirements: School of Public Health

The School of Public Health admits a limited number of transfer students to its program each fall semester. Admission is competitive and is based on an overall assessment of the applicant's background and accomplishments as presented in the application. Academic performance is assessed on factors such as: overall grade point average and rigor of curriculum, progress in the prerequisite courses by the end of the spring semester, grade trends, and completion patterns.

Students who apply by the application deadline of February 1 will be reviewed by the college for consideration for admission. Late applications will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

Admission Consideration:

Most successful applicants will have:

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA (strongly preferred)
  • 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA (preferred)
  • 39 completed credits at time of application
    • Students with credit totals below 39 at the point of application may be candidates for conditional admission if they have 52 credits completed by the end of the spring semester prior to enrollment. 

 

Prerequisite Coursework

Applicants must have completed two of the four prerequisite courses with a C- or higher at the time of applying. At least three prerequisites (any combination) must be completed by the end of spring semester. Strongest applicants will have all four prerequisite courses completed by the end of spring semester. 

The prerequisite courses may be met via direct equivalent or by completion of an introductory course that meets the subject identified.

    • SOC 3811 (Social Statistics)
    • BIOL 3272 (Applied Biostatistics)  
    • EPSY 3264 (Basic and Applied Statistics) 
  • Biology, Human Anatomy, or Physiology (1 course or AP, IB, or A-Level credit)
    • ANAT 3001 (Human Anatomy)
    • or BIOL 1009 (General Biology) 
    • or PHSL 2041 (Physiology and Medicine) 
    • or BIOL 1951/1961 (Foundations of Biology)

 

Applicants are strongly recommended to complete an Intro Public Health course before applying. Students admitted without an Intro Public Health course will be required to take PUBH 1202 in their first semester.
