Information for National Students

National Scholarships

Our National Scholarships for non-resident freshmen are offered to help offset the cost of out-of-state tuition--making the University of Minnesota a great value for national students! To be considered for a National Scholarship, students must complete their freshman application by the corresponding application deadlines dates. No additional application is required.

National students comment on their U of M experience:

"Everyone here that I've met loves this school and loves being a U of M student. We show our pride through our excellence in academics, extracurriculars and sports. Ski-U-Mah!"

- Sofia Madden; Psychology major, Class of 2018; San Jose, California

"I love that this campus is located between the two cities. We're only a few miles from downtown Minneapolis and we're connected to both cities via light rail, which is amazing. I get the best of both worlds here where I can have the campus feel in a metropolitan setting. A lot of my friends back home had to choose one or the other."

- Jordan Steger, Art and Anthropology major, Class of 2017, Richmond, Virginia

"I decided to go to U of M for a couple of reasons. I am extremely interested in genetics as an intellectual curiosity and as a possible future career and the U of M has a genetics major which is surprisingly hard to find at the undergraduate level. I was also drawn to the U of M because it is a Big Ten school in a big city which means that there are so many cultural and diverse things always happening around me."

- Emily Engelbrecht-Wiggas, Genetics, Cell Biology and Development Major, Class of 2018, Champaign, Illinois
