Housed in a striking stainless steel and brick building designed by architect Frank Gehry, the Weisman Art Museum offers an educational and friendly museum experience. The museum's collection features early 20th century American artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Marsden Hartley, as well as a diverse selection of contemporary art. A teaching museum for the University of Minnesota and the community, the Weisman provides a fresh, engaging arts experience through an array of programs and a changing schedule of exhibitions.

The Goldstein Museum of Design, the only design museum in the upper Midwest, is part of the University of Minnesota and housed in the Department of Design, Housing, and Apparel, in the College of Design. The Goldstein is devoted to the teaching, research, and exhibition of design. Its emphasis is on art and design closest to people's lives. Exhibition topics cover the breadth of design--from clothing and textiles to decorative art and graphic design.

This summer's exhibitions include "The Lion's Mane" and "Mysteries in the Mud." Did you know that the lion's mane plays a role in attracting a mate? Two University of Minnesota researchers were the first to make this discovery, and their research is exhibited in this exciting display about "the king of beasts." Also showing is an exhibit about climate change that took place hundreds of years ago right here in Minnesota.

The Katherine E. Nash Gallery exhibits works of art in various media by diverse artists from the University of Minnesota as well as regional, national, and international sources. Opened as part of the State of Minnesota's Centennial Celebration in 1958, this year marks the 50th year of the U of M Showboat Players' summertime productions. They feature an interactive style of theatre based upon old-time vaudeville traditions and offer great music, wit, charm, and lots of laughter to thousands of patrons per year. This summer's production is the epic drama, "The Count of Monte Cristo." From the writer of "The Three Musketeers," this imaginative story follows the adventures of a dashing sailor who is wrongly sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison by those jealous of his good fortune.

Take your pick! Both the Minnesota Twins and the Saint Paul Saints offer summer entertainment and one-of-a-kind excitement to Twin Cities visitors. Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Joe Nathan, and Michael Cuddyer lead the Minnesota Twins at Minneapolis's Metrodome stadium. The Saint Paul Saints, whose motto is "Fun is Good," offer a unique and quirky baseball experience you won't forget.

The Guthrie Theater, founded in 1963, is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training. A new and updated Guthrie building opened in 2006 and is home to three state-of-the-art stages. Recent and upcoming performances at the Guthrie include A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Secret Fall of Constance Wilde, The Government Inspector, and After a Hundred Years.

The new exhibit "MN150," presented by Best Buy at the Minnesota History Center, celebrates of 150 years of Minnesota statehood by exploring changes - changes wrought by powerful people and by ordinary citizens, sparked by something as simple as a hockey game or as broad as a new political party - changes ranging from those that have shaken up Minnesota to those that have rocked the world. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts is a free museum dedicated to educating its half-million yearly visitors about art and history. With a permanent collection of 80,000 works of art, the museum highlights art from Africa, Asia, and the Americas, as well as decorative arts, modern sculpture and photography.
This summer's special exhibit features Lee Friedlander. "Big and exuberant, this retrospective traces a prolific career that continues to thrive today. Friedlander's photographic interests encompass portraits, landscapes, monuments, Main Street U.S.A, and then some. Nearly 500 images and publications attest to Friedlander's sweeping virtuosity and unquenchable curiosity. Organized by theme and decade, the photographs will at turns dazzle, haunt, startle, and delight you with their crisp eloquence, comic grace, and sheer glee at life's rich spectacle."
