A detailed definition of Minnesota residency is online at z.umn.edu/residency.
North Dakota, Wisconsin, or Manitoba residents: For the 2026-27 academic year, the estimated reciprocity rate is $19,174 for tuition and fees. Please note that reciprocity is not automatic. To pay this lower rate, students must complete a reciprocity application and receive approval from their home state. The application forms are available at z.umn.edu/reciprocity.
Non-resident rates apply to students who are residents of any state outside of Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, or Manitoba. For the 2026-27 academic year, the estimated rate is $43,332 for tuition and fees. Families of non-resident students are encouraged to thoughtfully consider the total four-year financial commitment of attending college out of state. A student’s financial aid package might not cover the entire cost of attending. While parent loans are available, those loans require the borrower to be creditworthy.
See Cost of Attendance for information regarding other estimated costs for attending the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
If the Cost of Attendance on your financial aid information does not seem to match your residency, please contact One Stop Student Services at z.umn.edu/contact so we can confirm that we have the correct residency data on file. If a correction is needed, we will send you an updated estimated offer.
