Why they chose the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
In the process of searching for a college, I did not have an idea what I wanted to study. This made me realize I wanted a university with a variety of possibilities to major in. Because the U of M offers 150 majors, I was sure this would be the perfect fit. I also wanted to stay close to home while still having the feeling that I was away at college. U of M just made sense with Stadium Village, Dinkytown, and a campus that feels like its own city and so many activities to participate in.
Favorite University of Minnesota Class
During my time at the U of M, I took a food science course where we learned about the chemistry of food, but more importantly, we got to make and eat food during class. Highly recommend checking it out once you are a student!
Favorite Student Organization
One of my favorite student organizations is Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF). STLF gives students the opportunity to volunteer for communities both near and far. I took part in their annual Spring Break Pay It Forward Tour, during which we traveled to Pensacola, Florida, and volunteered at various locations along the way. Oh, and did I mention, I only knew that my destination was Florida, and I would volunteer along the way? I highly recommend looking into this student org further.
Favorite U of M Memory
During my time at the University of Minnesota, I was a part of the University YMCA (UY) where I was able to hold multiple positions over time; Youth Mentor, Data Analytics Intern and Alumni Relations Intern. Through being a part of the UY, I was able to travel to Hawaii and meet other college students from across the nation and learn more about the land.
Favorite Random Fact about the University
There was a pre-"world wide web" invented at the U called "Gopher" and was introduced as a precursor to the internet used today. It utilized hyperlinks to connect documents to each other.
Best Place to Study on Campus
When it comes to studying, I have realized I enjoy more cozy environments. As a result, I really enjoyed studying in the Graduate Hotel lobby when I wanted a livelier setting, and there was a Starbucks nearby. However, I also enjoyed the Walter Library's 1st floor computer lab when I wanted a more relaxed environment.
The One Experience Students Shouldn't Miss
The University of Minnesota is a very large campus, which means there are many resources to take advantage of while you are a student. I'm sure there are a lot of opportunities I'm unaware of, so be sure to take advantage of them and keep an eye out for new ones all the time.
