Favorite University of Minnesota Class: "Everything I Know About Physics I Learned By Reading Comic Books" which is a Freshman Seminar Physics course that looks at physics in relation to superheroes. The professor of the course, Dr. James Kakalios, wrote a book titled "Physics for Superheroes" and has served as a physics consultant for several major motion pictures including the latest iteration of Spiderman.

Favorite Student Organization: Art for Birds! Which is a student organization that combines interests in environmentalism with arts as students paint windows on campus that birds are more prone to fly into in hopes that they can protect them from injury!

Most Inspirational U of M Alum: Lou Bellamy, who received his Master of Arts and was also on faculty, founded Penumbra Theatre in Minneapolis, which is the nation's largest African-American theatre company. Penumbra has been an incredibly important theatre in producing theatre written, directed, and featuring People of Color. He worked with prolific American playwright August Wilson and Penumbra has produced more of Wilson's work than any other theatre in America.

Favorite Random Fact about the University: The University of Minnesota was founded 7 years before the state of Minnesota!

Best Place to Study on Campus: Coffman Student Union because there is often talented students playing the piano which provides some great relaxing study jams.

The One Experience Students Shouldn't Miss: Study abroad! I spent 5 months in the Middle East/North Africa region and still think about and use that experience every day! I made some of my best friends, learned so much about myself, and was able to connect with so many amazing people!

I also encourage students to take advantage of our Freshman Seminar programs as they are a great opportunity to connect with faculty and dive deep into a content area with a small group of students!
