Why they chose the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
My three older siblings went to the University and I choose to follow, first as a PSEO student and then a traditional four-year undergrad. It was also close to home since I was raised in Minneapolis.
My favorite course during my undergrad was Asian American History. An award winning American historian, who became one of my mentors, taught it. It helped me understand the historical meaning and importance of why Americans of Asian descent have such a big impact on the nation. It also really gave me perspective on how to disaggregate the experiences of different groups of Asians here in the US.
Favorite Student Organization
Hmong Minnesota Student Association. I participated as a board member during my undergrad and continue to support their work today.
Favorite U of M Memory
Creating the student-led coalition APIs 4 Equity & Diversity. I met other students who cared and supported my efforts to expand diversity here on campus.
Most Inspirational U of M Alum/Figure
James Hong, a Chinese American actor. He set up the East-West Players, the oldest Asian American theater in Los Angeles, California. He has continuously advocated for Asian American inclusivity in the entertainment industry.
