Take the ACT or SAT: Students should take the ACT or SAT in the spring of their junior year to ensure that scores are available for the freshman admission application. The ACT writing exam is required.
Scores must be sent by the testing agency to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities using the following codes:

Register for the ACT or SAT
September 9, 2008SAT registration deadline
Last day to register for the SAT and meet the admission application priority deadline for fall 2009. The test date is October 4, 2008.
September 19, 2008ACT registration deadline
Last day to register for the ACT plus Writing Test and meet the admission application priority deadline for fall 2009. The test date is October 25, 2008.Apply for Admission, Honors & Scholarships
December 15, 2008Priority deadline for fall 2009 admission applications
Complete applications postmarked by December 15, 2008, receive priority consideration for admission. Applications that are postmarked or become complete after December 15 are considered on a space-available basis. Space is generally very limited for most programs and admission is more competitive.Honors and scholarship consideration: Admitted freshmen are considered for admission to the University Honors Program and for most of the University's competitive academic scholarships based on an overall assessment of their admission application. After December 17, students are considered for honors on a space-available basis. It is unlikely that scholarship funds will be available after December 15.

March 1, 2009Financial aid application (FAFSA) priority deadline
To apply for need-based grants, scholarships, loans, work-study; and non-need-based student and parent loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA (available January 1, 2009) is used to determine your eligibility for federal, state, and University aid. Even if you think you may not be eligible, we strongly encourage you to submit the FAFSA. March 1, 2009Housing Living Learning Community priority deadline
Students who are interested in one of the Living Learning Communities are encouraged to apply as soon as possible but no later than March 1, 2009. Assignments in Living Learning Communities are based on the date the completed housing application-contract is received, space availability, and whether students meet program requirements.
May 1, 2009Freshman Housing Guarantee deadline
The University of Minnesota guarantees housing to all admitted first-year freshmen who are willing to accept assignment to any space designated, and who:
- Submit the housing application-contract and $25 non-refundable housing application fee to Housing & Residential Life no later than May 1, 2009; and
- Confirm your enrollment with the Office of Admissions no later than May 1, 2009.
