Apply for Admission, Honors & Scholarships

December 15, 2009
Priority application deadline
Applications that are submitted or become complete after December 15 are considered on a space-available basis. After December 15, space is generally very limited and admission is more competitive. Learn more.

Note on ACT or SAT scores: The ACT and SAT offered in October are the last opportunity for students to take the exam and have their scores arrive by the December 15 priority deadline. Contact the Office of Admissions if you have questions about sending scores or registering for the exams.

Honors and scholarship consideration: Admitted freshmen are considered for admission to the University Honors Program and for most of the University's competitive academic scholarships based on an overall assessment of their admission application. After December 15, students are considered for honors on a space-available basis. It is unlikely that scholarship funds will be available after December 15.

Apply for Financial Aid

March 1, 2010
Financial aid application (FAFSA) priority deadline
To apply for need-based grants, scholarships, loans, work-study; and non-need-based student and parent loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA (available January 1, 2010) is used to determine your eligibility for federal, state, and University aid. Even if you think you may not be eligible, we strongly encourage you to submit the FAFSA. For more information about the FAFSA, visit the Costs, Aid, and Scholarships section of our Web site.

Apply for Guaranteed Housing

March 1, 2010
Housing Living Learning Community priority deadline
Students who are interested in one of the Living Learning Communities are encouraged to apply as soon as possible but no later than March 1, 2010. Assignments in Living Learning Communities are based on the date the completed housing application-contract is received, space availability, and whether students meet program requirements.

May 1, 2010
Freshman Housing Guarantee deadline
The University of Minnesota guarantees housing to all admitted first-year freshmen who are willing to accept assignment to any space designated, and who:

  1. Submit the housing application-contract and $25 non-refundable housing application fee to Housing & Residential Life no later than May 1, 2010; and
  2. Confirm your enrollment with the Office of Admissions no later than May 1, 2010.

Confirm Enrollment

May 1, 2010
Enrollment confirmation deadline
The deadline for admitted students to confirm their enrollment for fall 2010 is May 1, 2010. When students confirm their enrollment, they are declaring their intent to enroll at the University of Minnesota, and we will reserve a place for them in the incoming class.

Students should simply return the enrollment confirmation form (which was included with their admission letter) and the $175 non-refundable confirmation fee to the Office of Admissions by May 1, 2010. Confirmation forms and fees received after the May 1, 2010, postmark deadline are accepted on a space-available basis.
