Your student's college experience will be enhanced by award-winning professors, an unprecedented variety of opportunities (including internships, research experiences, and study abroad), and a four-year graduation guarantee.
The following is a checklist that will help students reserve their place in the Class of 2014. We've also included important details about financial aid and housing. We know that a student's senior year is very busy, so why not complete this checklist today?
As always, don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!
Next Steps Checklist
For fall 2010 admitted freshmen
__ Apply for Financial Aid
To apply for need-based grants, scholarships, loans, work-study; and non-need-based student and parent loans, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA (available January 1, 2010) is used to determine eligibility for federal, state, and University aid. We strongly encourage students to submit the FAFSA, even if they think they may not be eligible. For more information about the FAFSA, visit the Costs, Aid, and Scholarships section of our Web site.
__ Apply for Housing
The housing application will be available in October 2009.
Students who are interested in one of the Living Learning Communities are encouraged to apply as soon as possible but no later than March 1, 2010. Assignments in Living Learning Communities are based on the date the completed housing application-contract is received, space availability, and whether students meet program requirements.
The University of Minnesota guarantees housing to all admitted first-year freshmen who are willing to accept assignment to any space designated, and who:
- Submit the housing application-contract and $25 non-refundable housing application fee to Housing & Residential Life no later than May 1, 2010; and
- Confirm your enrollment with the Office of Admissions no later than May 1, 2010.
Students who apply for housing after May 1 are placed in housing on a space-available basis.
__ Confirm Enrollment
The deadline for admitted students to confirm their enrollment for fall 2010 is May 1, 2010.
When students confirm their enrollment, they are declaring their intent to attend the University of Minnesota, and we will reserve a place for them in the incoming class.
Students should simply return the enrollment confirmation form (which was included with their admission letter) and the $175 confirmation fee to the Office of Admissions by May 1, 2010. Confirmation forms and fees received after the May 1, 2010, postmark priority deadline, are accepted on a space-available basis.
