Connecting with others is easy!

Here at the University of Minnesota, you can have a great time while you get a great education. There are so many ways to get involved and make the most of your college experience. You can get to know other outgoing students in the U of M community. You can gain experiences that prepare you for a successful career.

Get involved!

You'll find more than 600 student organizations at the University of Minnesota.

  • Enhance your learning experience with academic organizations such as the Forensic Science Club, Forestry Club or the Society of Women Engineers.
  • Explore other cultures or celebrate your own heritage with multicultural groups like the American Indian Student Association, Hindu Student Society or Black Student Union.
  • Broaden your horizons with interest-based groups like the SCUBA Club, Hip Hop Committee and Cricket Club.
  • Celebrate service and leadership in campus fraternities and sororities.

Whatever your interest, there's likely a club. Don't see your crowd? Form your own club. All it takes is three friends and $15!

Catch MAROON-and-GOLD fever!

The U of M has 23 teams in the Big Ten Conference. Whether you join a Spirit Squad, crash a cymbal in the Minnesota Marching Band, or belt the "Minnesota Rouser" from the bleachers, it's a blast to cheer for the Golden Gophers!

Explore cultures!

Our campus community is full of students and staff with different backgrounds, passions, and experiences. At the University of Minnesota, you can honor your own culture and learn more about others. Whether through community festivals, special events, academic courses, or student groups, you'll broaden your cultural horizons.

Get active!

Play on an intramural team or join a sport club. The U of M offers intramural leagues with over 2,000 teams and 9,000 students. You'll find everything from basketball to skydiving to juggling to whitewater kayaking.

Express yourself!

Prowl the West Bank Arts Quarter. Perform with a music ensemble. Act in a theater troupe. Write articles for The Minnesota Daily. Select music for Radio K.

Live on campus!

About 80 percent of first-year students live on campus. In one of our residence halls, you'll meet new friends, live close to classes, take advantage of campus events, and even increase your grade point average. (That's right! Research concludes that living in University housing has a positive influence on GPA.)

Consider a Living & Learning Community, a special housing unit within our residence halls. Students in these tight-knit communities build friendships and plan activities around their common passions. We offer a wide range of these communities, including science and technology houses, honors houses, humanities houses, art houses and language or cultural interest houses.
