The Institute of Technology (IT) offers 18 bachelor's degree programs, including 10 engineering specialties. Its programs are ranked among the best in this country with more than 150 companies recruiting IT students each year. Admission is selective; to be successful, students should have strong science and mathematics aptitude.
As an IT student, you'll learn from nationally recognized faculty who are leaders in their fields. You'll also have opportunities to take advantage of special study abroad courses for IT students, participate in undergraduate research, and gain hands-on experience in student groups and team competitions--like the Society of Women Engineers and the Solar Vehicle Project. In addition, IT students benefit from the support of caring academic and career advisers who are dedicated to their students' success.

Prerequisite coursework:

| One year of calculus (equivalent to MATH 1271 & 1272) | |
| One year of calculus based physics (equivalent to PYHS 1301 W & 1302W) | Applicants with less than two semesters may still be considered for admission based on the overall strength of their record. However, they should be aware that this may delay their expected graduation as it is a prerequisite for many courses. |
| One semester of chemistry (equivalent to CHEM 1021) | Applicants who are pursuing a degree in a chemistry based major (ChEn, BME, Chem, BBE, or MatSci) must have two semesters completed (equivalent to CHEM 1022). |
Technical GPA: Most successful applicants to the Institute of Technology have a 3.0 or higher technical grade point average (tech GPA). This GPA consists of courses in math, physics, and chemistry (beginning with equivalents to those listed above) as well as engineering and computer science courses.
Schedule changes: The University expects that students will successfully complete the coursework they list on their admission application. Schedule changes of academic coursework and/or the unsuccessful completion of coursework may result in the cancellation of admission or delay your expected graduation date. Students considering making schedule changes, or those who are concerned about their academic progress in any of their courses, should consult with their U of M admissions counselor (1-800-752-1000 or 612-625-2008).
